Make It Market kit: Beautiful Brushstrokes...

Papertrey Ink has another card kit coming soon to you! This one is my FAVORITE so far. It's beyond gorgeous. Betsy has really outdone herself with these stamps, I especially love the fonts. If you follow current stationery trends, you'll see that the fonts are really fun and playful, yet elegant at the same time...almost calligraphy in style. And this kit is spot on with this trend. I love, love, love it, and hope to see more of this look with Papertrey Ink!! I made 6 cards with the kit. (Well, actually 7, but I can't decide if I like the last one or not. Maybe I'll post it later on.) Here we go...

On the first card, I used the watercolor paper in the kit to die cut the large flower and stamped it with Hibiscus Burst ink with the Pure Poppy lines over the top. I used a stamp from the kit in the background. To make the black leaves as a shadow to the other leaves, I placed strips of the washi tape in the kit over a piece of cardstock and then die cut the leaves with the leaf dies. The washi tape leaves are placed under the other leaves as a shadow effect.

The colored twine is in the kit also. It's variegated with oranges and pinks, and there's another one that is blues and purples!

On the next card, I stamped the large Summer Sunrise colored rose directly onto the watercolor paper. Then I took a paintbrush and some water and painted the water over the top to create a smoother look to the flower. Using watercolor paper really allows the ink colors to blend! The leaves were dipped in Spring Moss ink and then the Ripe Avocado ink on the edges, then stamped. And I added a little bit of water over the top of those also to blend them in a bit! Do you love the look? Or is it too messy? What do you think?

To add a tiny bit more color to the flower, I used the watercolors (add-on to the kit) to paint a bit of hot pink over the flower. I added water to blend it and dabbed with my paper towel whenever I had too much paint. The label was also die cut from watercolor paper and painted with a blue paint from the watercolor paint palette. When dry, I stamped the frame and the "thanks".

Make It Monday: Vellum Overlays.

If you know me, you'll know how much I love the soft look of vellum and layering! So today's Make It Monday video at Papertrey Ink is all about Vellum Overlays. I love cards I see in the stores that have vellum overlays, they look so professional and elegant. I'll show you how to make this card, and a few other samples that I've done recently with different ways to use vellum as an overlay!

You can create a vellum panel like I did here on just a portion of your card, you can do a vellum panel that covers your whole card like these. Or you can use vellum to create an overlaid sentiment like this or overlaid on die cuts like this. So many ways to use it as an overlay! Hope you can play along this week! You can watch the video and enter the contest at Nichole Heady's blog. I've also create a VELLUM Pinterest board if you need more ideas.

AND...I would love to know if there is anything you want to see in a Make It Monday video? Always curious to know what you are looking to learn from me! :) Thanks, sweet friends! So glad you stopped by. Always love to hear from you!

Introducting Bowl of Sunshine...

Today we are previewing a new stamp set coming out at Papertrey Ink in a few days called Bowl of Sunshine, along with the new Berry Basket II die. I wanted to do something different with the Berry Basket II. Instead of a real "basket" with it, I created a pocket for a set of cards. Do you like to give card sets as gifts? They're wrapped up with a set of envies behind and tucked in a cellophane bag.

First, here is how I made the basket pocket. I die cut just ONE of the basket pieces in Aqua Mist cardstock. Then I scored on the lines and folded in the side tab and folded the bottom piece up. I adhered the 2 sides of the basket to the back. Voila! A pocket!

The cards are slightly smaller than an A2 size to fit in the pocket. I trimmed them to a finished size of 3.5" x 5". Then stamped them (one card with each different fruit) with the Bowl of Sunshine stamps. When the stamping was finished, they are dry embossed using the Herringbone Impression Plate.

One of the bowls was die cut with the Bowl of Sunshine dies, then I used it as a mask to stamp the shading under the bowl with the oval stamp in the set.

When I looked up "berry basket" online, I saw lots of cute baskets with red plaid fabric hanging over the edge, so I achieved a similar look with a piece of Pure Poppy patterned paper by Papertrey Ink, just folded and adhered to the top edge of the basket.
When all of the cards were done, I inserted them into the basket, put the basket inside a cellophane bag, and added 4 envelopes behind the pocket in the bag. Twine and a die cut word finishes off the gift on the outside! The word "enjoy" is cut with the new Wet Paint Cuts dies.

That's it! This is a quick 'n easy gift card set to make when you need a gift in a pinch.

Monthly Moments: June...

Papertrey Ink's Monthly Moments team is up today to share with you the FAB new products coming out this month! The June journaling cards are to die for, the colors are so fun. I hope you'll agree! I couldn't help but make another mini album, it just came together so effortlessly with these great things to work with.
The base of the album is made from the new Monthly Moments: June Journal Cards. On the front cover, I used the new Monthly Moments: June stamps and dies ("snapshots", the arrow, "lazy days" are all stamped).

On the first page, I couldn't help sharing this picture I took yesterday on my birthday at sunset. This photo captured so many things I love...being outdoors, sunshine, the sunset, the color red, flowers on my deck, summer. And behind the photo - one of my favorite papers EVER! That stripe!

Next, in my album I wanted to add some of our SUMMER bucket list items. We have a lot of them, so I made 2 pages with the new Journal Card 2 and Journal Card 3 dies!  I might actually add a couple more pages to this for more bucket list items.
Isn't it cute how you can check them off when completing them? (Page 2 of our summer bucket list.)

To dress up the ends of these die cut journal cards, I used the new Monthly Moments: Tabbed stamps and dies ("love this" and "makes me happy" tabs).

Next is a larger page with one of the 4x6" Journal Cards. Another use of the Monthly Moments: Tabbed stamp set to draw your eye to the cute photo of my Kati and her new friend Cassidy. Of course I had to document pool days. We'll be spending lots of days at the pool this summer.
(Tab up close.) Kati met a new friend at the end of the school year. She rode her bus, and we just found out she lives right around the corner and is also going into 4th grade!
Next, I added some photos of our recent trip to Grand Lake, CO last week. See the little striped end on my photo? This was cut with a new die called Journal Card Borders. (There are 4 different borders in this set.)

Under these 3 photos is the journaling that goes with it. I attached two small cards together to make it longer.

My in-laws were here visiting for the last 3 weeks from NY. We have been doing mini outings and took the 4-day trip to Grand Lake together. They just left yesterday. When we came back from the mountains, we took the girls to the Wildlife Museum to see the 3D movie The Arctic at the IMAX and out to lunch for the last day.

Last is just a fun page made with the Monthly Moments: Tabbed stamps. You could journal on the back if you wish.

I've taken over 900 pics this month. I wish I could put them ALL in my album! I'm sure I'll add more as the month goes on, or choose some more from our Grand Lake trip to add. We saw a gorgeous waterfall and went to the Rocky Mountains to see the tops of the mountains. Did you know it's considered tundra up there? Anyway...hope you enjoyed these ideas with the Monthly Moments: June products. You can grab them at www.papertreyink.com on June 15th at 10pm EST.

more Monthly Moments: May...

I have another quick project using the Monthly Moments: May Journal Card Collection and stamps from Papertrey Ink. I wanted to do something unexpected with these products, as usual, ha. I always love to try and think outside the box...I hope that's ok with you all! :)  I loved the patterns in the Journal Cards and wanted to use up some of those patterns, so I created a layout by punching circles out of the Journal Cards. You could use the Journal Card papers to die cut shapes too, if you don't want to always use them as rectangle pieces. By cutting them into shapes, you can utilize these cute patterns on cards as well! Use them however you want - cut them, leave them plain, stitch on them...whatever your heart desires.

Also, I used the stamps in an unusual way, I guess you could say. I love the look of "text" these days, so I used the Monthly Moment stamps ("happy day") on a punched circle to add that text feel to my page. A Circle Scribbles die cut is machine stitched over the top.

To keep the layout cohesive, I used all punched circles the same size for the background, but added different things to each one of them. Keeping the color palette similar throughout ties it all together (which was drawn from the Journal Card paper collection). On the "Take Note" circle, I trimmed the saying from a Journal Card and punched a smaller circle from another Journal Card. A piece of resin and wooden heart finishes it off, and I love the layers!

My older daughter just graduated from 8th grade, and I wanted to document some of my feelings with this page. She's off to high school next year!
